Success Story

Haitian Children Displaced by Earthquake Find a Safe Haven
The 7.0 earthquake that leveled Port-au-Prince and crippled much of Haiti's infrastructure displaced more than a million people who, after six months, are still living in tents and tarpaulins without basic sanitation. Among them are eight-year-old Christelle, who fled with her mother to a tent city in a slum outside the capital. In the quake's aftermath, this shanty town was quickly overburdened by a massive influx of displaced men, women and children. Despite the challenges
, World Hope International (WHI) Haiti, an NPI grantee, set up one of the few safe spaces for children to go to in the absence of schools and churches, many of which were destroyed. In this haven, Christelle and children like her are finding help to cope with trauma, reclaim their childhood and regain hope for the future. For the full story, click here.
